The no-photo gap creates three specific problems.

First, there is no way to measure the lights. Without images or video, readers cannot estimate angular size, apparent speed, spacing, elevation or whether the lights were truly airborne. Second, the failed recording removes a check on colour and motion. Phone cameras often exaggerate bright points, smear motion, distort colours and create lens artefacts.
